Journal Critique Assignment Instructions
For each Journal Critique, you will evaluate and critique a research article from a professional journal. The journal can be from any discipline that addresses a topic in urban education specific to the module assigned. All articles must be current (less than five years old). Your critique must include a title page, a reference page, and be between 225–250 words long. Title page, in-text citations, and the reference page are NOT included in the word limit. Your Journal Critique should consist of three parts (each part should be one paragraph in length):
· Part 1: Summary Paragraph,
· Part 2: Analysis of Author’s Key Points
· Part 3: Personal Response
It is appropriate to use personal pronouns in Part 3: Personal Response, but not in any other section of the Journal Critique.
When composing your critique, remember to use graduate professional writing. Do not begin with “This article is about…” Instead, open the review with a strong thesis statement and summarize the authors main points in the first paragraph. Using third person, state your personal reaction to the article in the final paragraph (“This author agrees/disagrees…” or one can see that…).
